The ability to press pause, be present, and fully absorb experiences is missed when we are constantly focused on a state of hyper-productivity. For better or for worse, the advent of the very technology we grew dependent upon made "fast" our new norm.

From snail mail to email, from driving to flying, and the most obvious, from home-cooked meals like Big Mama used to make to fast food served through the window of our cars. This fast-paced existence resulted in a public and private fight to decolonize time.  Dr. Omni's dissertation, Black Joy in Green Spaces, served as an active and academic participant in this fight. ** Dr. Omni will debut "Sun is True Witness: An Epic, Planetary Performance of Pause" during the 2023 Walking Visions/Visions for Walking International Encounters/Conference in Prespa, Greece in July. Chris Omni is an eco-spiritualist, two-time TEDx speaker, Black women's health researcher, Provost Postdoctoral Scholar, documentary filmmaker, and international nature writer. Chris holds a bachelor's degree in Human Services, two master's degrees - Public Health and Liberal Studies, and will complete her PhD in Art Education at Florida State University in early June 2023.

Dr. Omni deeply values the unapologetic use of her voice and agency to speak life, love, and Light to all people especially Black women. To honor her Mama, who died from cancer in 2016, Dr. Omni developed a physical activity intervention to enhance the health and well-being of Black women, a community-based participatory research experience to explore health disparities that disproportionately impact Black women in Kansas, and a stage performance to provide counter narratives to the deficit-rooted lens generally applied to health disparities. To honor her Dad, who nearly lost his life to COVID in 2021, her work expanded to include the exploration of green spaces as healing and pedagogical places. (Dad loves gardening!!!)

Dr. Omni is a source of love and Light. She lives each day to honor her divine assignment – "To create and hold spaces for self-restoration and healing!" According to other people, Dr. Omni is a whole vibe!
